On the second day, Betty and I went to Lantau Island to visit the Giant Buddha at the Po Lin Monastery. I got on the MTR at Tsim Sha Tsui and rode it about 40 minutes to Tung Chung on Lantau, instead of going to Central and taking a ferry, which takes about an hour and a half. The MTR extension came about from the new airport, of course. This arch marks the courtyard of Po Lin, and we decided to eat first at their famous vegetarian lunches inside an air-conditioned room. That was the luxury lunch- 40 HK$ more than the basic lunch (about $5 more and well-worth it!)
