This is a shot looking up Longevity Hill, part of the Summer Palace. The bottom building is the Hall of Dispelling Clouds, and served the Dowager Empress for her birthday parties. The tower is the Tower for Burning Incense to Buddha: pretty self-explanatory. I took the pictures as we walked the aptly-named Long Corridor, or Chang Lang, which is a half-mile-long covered promenade on the banks of Kumming Lake. I thought I took shots of the artwork covering the promenade, alas I did not, so take my word that there were well over 10,000 scenes painted on the wooden covering on that promenade!
